Serie A side Napoli legend Marek Hamsik compared new signing Scott McTominay’s playing style to his own.
Speaking in an interview with Corriere dello Sport, former Napoli captain Marek Hamsik likened Scott McTominay’s tactical position on the field to himself. The Slovak played as an attacking midfielder during his time with the Partenopei and reiterated how the Scotsman’s arrival could make a positive impact on the squad. Hamsik said: “McTominay could be my heir, he’s an attacking midfielder who, like me, loves to get involved and score goals. Let’s see, it depends on the formation. But he’s a strong name, he proved it with United and with the national team. A valid replacement for Lobo and Anguissa. Lobotka? He’s untouchable in this Napoli. He has the keys to the midfield.”
McTominay is a product of the Manchester United academy and this is the first time in his career that he will be playing outside of his childhood club. After a series of midfield investments in The Red Devils’ team, the 27-year-old found his place jeopardised and therefore he chose to feature for Napoli on a permanent transfer.
McTominay is yet to start for his new side and his debut could come during the restart of club football following the international break.
