Inter would make a ‘great signing’ if they brought Romelu Lukaku to the club this summer, according to the striker’s international teammate Dries Mertens.
Lukaku was left out of Manchester United’s friendly against Leeds on Wednesday and reports in England assured this was the beginning of a process that would take him to Inter.
Mertens has spent the last eight years playing alongside the 26-year-old for Belgium and gave the deal his blessing.
“Lukaku is a very good player, already one of the best five strikers in the Premier League,” the Napoli forward told Sky Sport.
“He’s still young and can learn a lot. He’s a person that always wants to improve so I’m certain he would be a good signing for Inter.”
Lukaku became Belgium’s all-time leading goal-scorer in November 2017 and has now found the net 48 times for his country.
Inter face United in Singapore on Saturday and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s match-day squad will provide a clearer indication on where the striker’s future lies.
