Napoli are eyeing a move for Celta Vigo midfielder Gabri Veiga this summer, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

The Spaniard is an exciting option for the Partenopei, especially if they lose Piotr Zielinski in the transfer window.

Zielinski could be on his way out of Naples after helping them to seal their first Scudetto in 33 years.

The Pole contributed three goals and eight assists in 37 appearances this term. He also scored four and assisted three as they reached the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League.

However, the 29-year-old has entered the final 12 months of his contract with Napoli. The club is offering him a new deal but they want him to accept lower wages.

If he does not accept, Napoli will try to sell him this summer as they don’t want to lose him for free.

They will turn to Veiga if they sell him. The 21-year-old has bagged 11 goals and four assists this season.

Veiga’s double against Barcelona in their last game of the La Liga campaign helped Celta avoid relegation.

He has sparked interest from around Europe after a breakout campaign that saw him become a talisman for his boyhood club.

Like Zielinski, he is better when receiving the ball in advanced areas and driving his side to the opposition’s goal.

The midfielder has a mean long shot and can unleash terrific hits with both feet.

Napoli feel Veiga is the right man to replace Zielinski, but they are not alone in pursuing him.

Chelsea have registered interest in the midfielder as they prepare to replace Mason Mount. They are ready to pay his €40 million release clause.

However, Napoli are counting on their good relationship with Celta to close the deal. They successfully did business to transfer Stanislav Lobotka and could repeat the trick with Veiga.

If Napoli cannot sign the Spaniard, they will reportedly turn to Udinese man Lazar Samardzic.
