Napoli have confirmed Maurizio Sarri has left the club, with Carlo Ancelotti poised to take over as manager.

A statement from president Aurelio De Laurentiis released Wednesday afternoon read: “I would like to thank Maurizio Sarri for his precious dedication to Calcio Napoli, which has made it possible to give prestige and emotions to the city and to the club’s fans all over the world, creating a model of play admired everywhere and by anyone. Bravo Maurizio.”

Sarri moved to the Stadio San Paolo from Empoli in the summer of 2015 and guided the club to a second-placed finish in Serie A this season, earning admirers for his attractive, attacking style of play along the way.

The 59-year-old has been strongly linked with a succeeding Antonio Conte at Chelsea this summer, and is also understood to have held talks with Russian side Zenit Saint-Petersburg.

Zenit are said to have given the Italian until the weekend to give them an answer, but he would reportedly prefer a move to Stamford Bridge.

Ancelotti – who has been out of work since he was sacked by Bayern Munich in September – is expected to be unveiled as the new Partenopei manager imminently.
