Napoli captain Lorenzo Insigne hailed Italy's performance for their 1-0 Nations League qualifying win over Holland.
Inter Milan attacker Nicolò Barella got the only goal with a rare header on Ciro Immobile's cross.
“It was a strong performance, we played with character and showed we were here to take control of the game," Insigne told RAI Sport.
“We did what the coach asked, got the result and we're happy. We were more dangerous down the left, but the moves tended to start down the right and we moved the ball around well.
“There could certainly have been a few more goals. At times we got too deep and the counter made it seem too far away, especially towards the end when we were tired."
Manuel Locatelli made his senior Italy debut in midfield and the Sassuolo talent was very impressive.
“Locatelli had a great performance, he's young and can improve, but he showed great character and we all complimented him.
“Barella is young too, but he's practically a veteran by now! He runs for three and helps everyone out on the pitch."
