Napoli captain Lorenzo Insigne admits they fell short of their standards in defeat at Champions League opponents Barcelona.

Insigne converted a penalty, but it wasn't enough after a 3-1 defeat at Camp Nou, eliminated 4-2 on aggregate.

“It's disappointing to be eliminated. We tried and knew it was a very difficult game against a great team. We could've done a little more in the first half, overall it was a good performance and we're disappointed to go out," the captain told Sky Sport Italia.

“Barca have a lot of very creative players. We tried to play as a team, as we have done during the season, but we didn't manage it 100 per cent.

“I am sure we can keep growing with the coach. We had difficulties in the first leg, then ahead of this second match Barcelona were able to rest for over a week to prepare, whereas we played non-stop.

“I hope we can do better next season. I think we're on the right track, but we need to score more goals, and I include myself in that. We do the same in Serie A, we create so many scoring opportunities and don't finish anywhere near enough of them.

“It's a recurring problem and we need to sort it out. There was probably a foul for the first goal and Leo Messi was smart on Koulibaly for the penalty, but once we went 3-0 down, it could've gone worse."
