Bologna striker Joshua Zirkzee remains a target for the likes of Milan, Juventus and Manchester United, but Napoli reportedly met to get a head start.
The centre-forward has impressed this season with nine goals and six assists in 24 games for Bologna between Serie A and the Coppa Italia.
There is a buy-back clause for Bayern Munich worth €40m that the Germans do not seem eager to activate, so would instead benefit from 40 per cent of the sell-on fee.
The asking price is going to be at least €50m and that figure just keeps rising with every strong performance in Serie A.
Manchester United are in the race, with Milan and Juventus ready to keep him in Italy, but another Calcio contender has emerged.
According to La Repubblica newspaper, Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis already met with Bologna chiefs to lay down the groundwork for a potential swoop.
He would certainly have the funds available if Victor Osimhen is sold for over €130m in the summer, as Chelsea, Arsenal, PSG and Tottenham Hotspur are all in the running for the Nigeria international.
