Napoli and Cagliari Working on Goalkeepers’ Trade

Napoli and Cagliari have started mulling a swap of deputy goalkeepers, with Elia Caprile moving to Sardinia and Simone Scuffet joining the Azzurri to deputize Alex Meret. The former would like to play more regularly. The team is closing in on the renewal of the starter.

According to Alfredo Pedullà, the youngster’s request will likely be met. He’d reunite with coach Davide Nicola. The two were together at Empoli last year. The Rossoblù have turned to Alan Sherri in recent games, but he hasn’t been completely convincing.

Scuffet could leave after losing the starting job and serve as the no.2 at Napoli, while Caprile would be the unquestioned top option at Cagliari. The veteran had the chance to do the same last summer. Milan tracked him after losing Marco Sportiello due to a serious hand injury. He preferred staying put, but he has been benched after 11 rounds due to a few shaky performances.

The 28-year-old could have returned to Udinese in a trade with Marco Silvestri, but it didn’t come together. If the deal with the Partenopei goes through, he’d team up with Meret again like earlier in their career, when they were both touted Friuliani prospects.

Our Take on Napoli, Cagliari, Caprile, and Scuffet

The Sardinians could certainly use an upgrade between the sticks, and their target is the best Serie A has to offer without breaking the bank. Unless the Azzurri plan a more regular rotation next year with the cups, they should cash in on the 23-year-old if they are truly committed to Meret. He’s too good and young to be a backup.
