In an official statement, FC Nantes have confirmed that their match against Lyon on Sunday 7th April in Ligue 1 will be played behind closed doors. As a result, no home or away fans will be allowed to enter the Stade de la Beaujoire on Sunday evening when the match is scheduled to take place.
The decision has been made by the LFP Disciplinary Commission following the use of pyrotechnic devices during a Ligue 1 match. The ban on fans is not just in place for Les Canaris’ match against OL. The punishment is also to be extended to partial stadium closures for a further two matches. Therefore, fewer fans than usual will be permitted for their next home game after Lyon which is Rennes.
Nantes plan to contact all supporters who have purchased tickets and have been affected by the decision as soon as possible.
Within their official statement, Nantes have declared that they believe the decision to ban or reduce fans for their next three matches is “deeply unfair and disproportionate”. To prevent future decisions taking place, the club have said, “We will carefully follow the future case law of the Disciplinary Commission regarding the use of pyrotechnic devices.”
