In a wide-ranging interview with Ligue 1’s official website, FC Nantes midfielder Pedro Chirivella (25) has revealed that his Liverpool years were instrumental for him on a physical level.

Chirivella signed for Nantes on a free transfer in 2020 when his contract with Liverpool expired. Since, he has been a mainstay for Les Canaris, with whom he won the very first trophy of his senior career after the club’s Coupe de France triumph last year. He recently extended his stay with a contract renewal tying him to the Ligue 1 outfit until 2026.

According to Chirivella, his time on Merseyside have mainly allowed him to develop physically and to endure. “It is especially on the physical level that my time at Liverpool helped me a lot”, the Spanish midfielder said. Chirivella assessed that high-intensity runs were his weak point because he always used to run at the same pace. “I’ve really improved on this front. And I’ve kept working on it since my arrival at Nantes.” Speaking on his central midfield role, the 2022 Coupe de France winner with Les Canaris revealed some insight he received from then Liverpool U23 head coach Neil Critchley. “He told me that the role of the midfielder was to put the players who will make the difference in the best conditions the: the n°10, the striker or the wingers.”
