Nantes’ Matthis Abline reacts to his €50m price tag

Speaking to L’Équipe, FC Nantes president Waldemar Kita slapped a €50m price tag on centre-forward Matthis Abline (22), in the event of an offer from Olympique de Marseille. The president notably expressed anger at how OM had treated past deals (Valentin Rongier, Quentin Merlin), through putting pressure on the players to push through a move.

It is due to this poor relationship between Nantes and Marseille that the latter would have to pay an inflated fee for the France U21 international. Should Premier League interest in the centre-forward become more concrete, such a figure would not have to be paid to acquire his services.

Abline has now spoken to L’Équipe. He is in Slovakia with Les Bleuets, who are currently competing in the U21 European Championships.

‘Lot’s of things tempt me’ – Abline

“Yeah, I saw that (laughs),”  he began. “I don’t really know how to react. He has his opinion, so there you go. For now, I am with the U21s and I am feeling good. In terms of my personal situation, we’ll see later.”

The Nantes forward was then quetioned specifically on OM’s interest, amid reports that Roberto De Zerbi’s side have already have a bid turned down. “Tempted by OM? Lots of things tempt me (smiles). Today, I’m not looking too far ahead. I’m at the Euros. That is all,” said Abline.
