Clermont and Nantes failed to manage a single shot on target for their Ligue 1 encounter this Sunday afternoon, as Ouest-France reported.

Logically, 0-0 was the final result. It is the first Ligue 1 game with no shot on target since statistician Opta started reviewing the French top flight in 2006. Clermont’s Muhammed Cham came close and hit Alban Lafont’s post with a shot deflected by Nantes’ midfielder Samuel Moutoussamy. Meanwhile, Nantes were completely ineffectual in possession and can consider themselves lucky to settle for a point. To their credit, they kept a clean sheet for a seventh consecutive game and remain seven points clear from the relegation zone.

But it was surely an afternoon to forget for Nantes’ head coach Antoine Kombouaré. “I got bored on the bench. What I witnessed in the second half was poor and sad“, lamented the former PSG boss. Still, Les Canaris gained a point and made another step forward in their relegation-battling season. But the Loire-Atlantique outfit will need to significantly improve against third-placed Marseille in their Beaujoire home on Wednesday. “This is not what we’re working for in training all week. We must be able to show something else“, added Kombouaré.
