FC Nantes are leading the race to appoint USL Dunkerque’s Luís Castro as their new manager, according to a report from L’Équipe.
Despite once again keeping Les Canaris in Ligue 1 last season, Antoine Kombouaré was relieved of his duties earlier this month. Castro, who excelled with Dunkerque last season, spearheading an unexpected charge towards the Ligue 2 promotion play-offs, and taking them to the semi-finals of the Coupe de France, emerged as the top target.
As per L’Équipe, Nantes now lead the race to appoint the Portuguese manager, who is also the subject of interest from RC Lens. Foot Mercato understands that he also recently rejected an offer to take charge of Shakhtar Donetsk. Castro favours a move to the Beaujoire and has already held talks with the Breton club.
Lens have Castro on their three-man shortlist to replace now-Southampton manager Will Still. However, Les Sang et Or are unwilling to pay Dunkerque compensation.
