Columbus Crew missed out on a chance to lift the CONCACAF Champions Cup on Saturday after a 3-0 loss to Pachuca.
The MLS side looked a step behind in Mexico, and were subsequently silenced by the hosts throughout 90 minutes.
Following the defeat, head coach Wilfried Nancy revealed his side was not quite their usual selves due to a sickness within the squad over the last two days.
However, he did not take anything away from Pachucaâs performance.
âMy players gave everything, knowing that they were sick also. All the team had diarrhea since yesterday; the staff also,â said Nancy.
âDonât get me wrong. This is a fact. Iâm not here to tell you [Pachuca] donât deserve to win.
âThey scored three goals; OK. But my players gave everything.â
The Crew return to MLS action on June 14 with a trip to New York City FC.
