Free-agent midfielder Nampalys Mendy will not sign a new Leicester City contract and will join Qatari side Al-Sadd.

That’s according to the Mirror, who claim Mendy has declined an extension despite the Foxes feeling optimistic that the club and the 28-year-old Frenchman were close to sealing a new agreement.

Mendy is thought to be in search of playing time after making just eight appearances last season, featuring for a total of just 368 minutes while making Leicester’s Premier League matchday squad just four times through their first 28 games.

In addition, Mendy should expect to be paid handsomely and enjoy playing behind Santi Cazorla should he head over to Al-Sadd, where he would get to learn from Barcelona legend Xavi, one of the best to ever play at the position.

Mendy, who Leicester City paid £14m for back in 2016, made just 50 first-team appearances for the club after coming over from OGC Nice.
