Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann showered his team with praise after their 4-0 drubbing of Mainz in the DFB-Pokal on Wednesday.

A superb performance from deadline day loan signing João Cancelo helped the Bavarians take a 3-0 lead into the break, and they did not look back from there.

“I’m very satisfied with the result and the way we played,” Nagelsmann said. “Games against Mainz and Bo Svensson’s teams are extremely difficult.

“We were more aggressive with the ball going forward than in recent games. We defended well and kept a clean sheet which was important.

“It was a deserved and important win, not only for this competition but also after we failed to win our games since the start of the year. We want more of the same against Wolfsburg on Sunday.”

Next up for Bayern is a return to Bundesliga action, where they will face off with VfL Wolfsburg as they to hang on to top spot in the league.
