Julian Nagelsmann is ‘confident’ that Leon Goretzka will sign a new contract at Bayern Munich, despite reported interest from Manchester United.

Goretzka has entered the final year of his deal with the Bundesliga champions and is yet to agree terms on a new deal, with the Red Devils understood to be monitoring his situation ahead of a potential move.

Manchester United are thought to be in the market for a midfielder, whilst the continued uncertainty surrounding Paul Pogba’s future could heighten their need for reinforcements before the end of the transfer window.

Bayern are keen for Goretzka to sign a new deal with the 26-year-old having been a key figure in the club’s successes since signing from Schalke on a free transfer in 2018, and Nagelsmann is confident the star will put pen to paper and commit his future to the German side.

“I’m not involved enough that I have a say every day. I stay out of these issues,” said the Bayern boss.

“Of course I have talked to him about my plans for him. I’ve told him I’d be happy if he extended and I’m also confident.

“There are several topics involved when it comes to discussing a contract extension.

“I’ll continue to focus on the sports side of things and show him he can be one of the most dangerous midfielders in Europe. He has potential to get even better.”
