As reported by Florian Plettenberg, Bayer Leverkusen’s Nadiem Amiri is on the verge of joining fellow Bundesliga outfit Mainz 05.
The midfielder has long been tipped with a move away from B04 this month. However, a move within Germany was never previously mentioned. The transfer to Mainz has certainly come quickly and out of the blue.
As previously reported by GGFN, the former German international was wanted by both Lyon and Marseille. In fact, Amiri was on the verge of joining Marseille last year with a €6m transfer fee having been agreed upon. However, having failed to qualify for the Champions League, the French side lacked the appropriate funding.
Amiri is now on his way to Mainz and will complete his medical on Wednesday.
The midfielder joins Mainz in the middle of a relegation battle. The team currently sit 17th in the table on 11 points, one point off the relegation play-off positions.
