Former América manager Nacho Ambriz has been creating history wherever he’s went in Mexican football over the last few seasons.

Despite a disappointing showing at the 2015 Club World Cup, Ambriz led América to the 2016 CONCACAF Champions League title during his 16-month stint in charge.

After a year away from the coaching ranks, Ambriz joined Necaxa and led them to the 2018 Copa MX Clausura title – their first trophy in 19 years.

Now, less than a year after taking over for Gustavo Diaz at León, Ambriz has his side unexpectedly in first place in Liga MX with four games to play, and has his eyes set on facing one particular opponent.

“For what it’s worth, I would like to play a final against América,” said the manager.

“I did not imagine it (being a leader) this late in the season. Football was what I was I had it in my head, but not in points,” he concluded.

León defeated América 3-0 in Estadio Azteca earlier in the season.
