A soon-to-be member of the youth ranks at Premier League giants Chelsea has on Tuesday pointed to Real Madrid wide-man Vinícius Jr. as the game’s very best player.

The player in question? Estêvão Willian.

The name of youngster Estêvão, better known as ‘Messinho’, has taken its place centre stage in the headlines in his home country of Brazil over the course of recent days.

This comes after the winger, at just 17, was afforded his maiden call-up to Dorival Júnior’s senior Seleção squad.

Estêvão, in turn, this afternoon linked up with his new teammates for the very first time.

And as much, for understandable reasons, marked something of a surreal experience for the Palmeiras talent – who will make the move to England to join Chelsea next summer.

After taking his place in front of the media, fresh off being introduced to the rest of Brazil’s star-studded squad, Estêvão was asked which of his fellow countrymen he had been most excited to meet.

And the explosive attacker made use of the opportunity to lavish praise on Real Madrid talisman Vinícius Jr, a player whom he considers an ‘idol’:

“I was most nervous to meet Vinícius, because of what he means for Brazil and Real Madrid. Vinicius Jr is the best player in the world right now. He is an idol for me.”
