Jonathan Rowe (21) was one of the more surprising names to arrive in Ligue 1 this season when he left his formative club Norwich City in the Championship for Olympique de Marseille on a loan deal with an obligation to buy at the end of the season for around €17 million.

Rowe has been limited to substitute appearances for the club after the impressive start to the campaign from left winger Luis Henrique (22), however, that hasn’t stopped the Englishman from making a big impact on the south coast.

The winger has provided an impressive directness during his four substitute appearances for Marseille. This was immediately clear during his debut against Stade de Reims where he replaced Elye Wahi (21) and hit the post. He had to wait until last weekend to open his goalscoring account when he scored the winner against arch-rivals Olympique Lyonnais (3-2).

Jonathan Rowe: ‘I like to get out of my comfort zone.’

Speaking to L’Équipe, the winger explained his decision to embrace moving to France, “I’m always open to things and I’m very ambitious, I like to get out of my comfort zone because that’s how you grow the most. My family and friends wanted me to stay in England. Going to Marseille was my decision.”
