London City Lionesses midfielder Shen Mengyu says that it is her dream to play in the Barclays Women’s Super League.

The 23-year-old Chinese international is one of a handful of high-profile signings made by London City Lionesses over the summer. She could make her competitive debut for the club in their season opener against Newcastle United at Hayes Lane on Sunday afternoon.

With the strong backing of owner Michele Kang, London City Lionesses will be hoping to acheive promotion to the Barclays Women’s Super League this season and summer signing Shen says that it’s her dream to play in the English top flight.

“Coming to England is really good for me because my dream is to play in the WSL, that’s why I joined this club,” Shen said when speaking to WSL Full-Time.

“We are working really hard here, we all have the same goal and that’s to get to the WSL. I hope that we can make it this season.”

As many as 11 players could make their London City Lionesses debuts against Newcastle United this weekend. While it has been a summer of change for The Pride, Shen believes that the group have gelled together well in pre-season.

She said “I think it’s good having lots of new players coming into the club [at the same time]. Pre-season is important and we’ve got to know each other very well throughout that time. It’s been pretty good.

“Everyone is now so excited for Sunday’s game, we can’t wait. We know it’s a big game because it’s the first game of the season. I think everyone is ready.”

London City Lionesses will play a home fixture at Hayes Lane for the very first time this weekend. Shen is excited to play in-front of the fans and believes that they will be highly-entertained this season.

She said “I can’t wait to play in-front of the fans. It’s the first game at Hayes Lane, so it’s really exciting for us but also for the fans. I can’t wait for the game.

“I would say to the fans to come and support us because we are going to bring a lot of entertainment. I think our games will be really enjoyable to watch.”
