Liverpool were linked with a move for Lyon centre-back Marcelo back in January.
L’Equipe reported that Marcelo rejected the Reds simply because they only offered him a six-month deal.
Since then, Marcelo has confirmed that Liverpool were interested in him. However, the 33-year-old stated that he is happy playing for Lyon.
“Liverpool? My agent spoke with them, but I feel good here. My dream is to win the championship with Lyon,” Marcelo told Canal Plus.
ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT
Marcelo is having a decent season for Lyon. The centre-back is averaging a WhoScored player rating of 7.05 across the 2020-21 campaign.
The aforementioned figure highlights that Marcelo could have offered Liverpool something in the second half of the current season.
As Marcelo is 33 years of age, it is believable that the Reds only offered him a six-month deal.
The reality is, Marcelo is at the backend of his career. It would have been a risky move offering Marcelo a longer contract, as his career is almost over.
Liverpool ended up signing Ozan Kabak and Ben Davies instead. Davies is yet to make his Liverpool debut.
