Riqui Puig has endured a very rough 2020-21 season at Barcelona. Ostracised from the starting XI almost entirely right from the beginning of the season, the young midfielder has had nothing to show for his persistence in the campaign gone by.

Ronald Koeman has given him no scope to establish himself as a regular, through a grudge that seemed to develop right at the beginning of the campaign. The Dutchman has been vocal multiple times regarding the prospect of Puig leaving on loan.

While Koeman has iterated that Puig is undoubtedly one of the players who have a bright future at the club, many believe it to be ingenuine considering the manager’s treatment of him last season. Now, however, the rumours of a departure from Barcelona have emerged again, albeit temporarily.

SPORT report that Koeman and his staff are once again keen on sending out Puig on loan to allow him to gain minutes and continue developing. Although, just like last season, the player is intent on staying put at Barcelona and fighting for a spot in the team despite all the exclusions.

It is believed that next week there could be a meeting to decide the youngster’s future. Fellow La Liga side Granada are reportedly interested in Puig and want to sign him on loan. Their new coach Robert Moreno has coached at Barcelona previously and is aware of the player’s quality. The same goes for their sporting director Pep Boada who has also worked at the Catalan club before.

The outlet state that Barcelona have supposedly received a plethora of loan requests for Puig, with four teams from La Liga vying for the 21-year old while some Premier League outfits have also made contact.
