Top Arsenal target Mykhaylo Mudryk has indicated that he is praying for Shakhtar Donetsk to accept the Gunners’ latest offer for him.

Although Arsenal have been linked with moves for strikers and midfielders, Mikel Arteta and technical director Edu have made Mudryk their top target in the winter transfer window.

There have been reports indicating that the Gunners could face competition from London rivals Chelsea for the Ukraine international but the Blues are yet to submit a proposal.

But Arsenal have now submitted a third bid for Mudryk after their previous two attempts were turned down, with their latest offer worth £62m plus add-ons, which would take the deal closer to £70m.

Shakhtar Donetsk have publicly stated that they want around £85m for the winger after catching the eye of clubs while playing in the Champions League.

Journalist Rudy Galetti claimed yesterday that Arsenal have an ‘agreement on the overall amount of the transfer’ with the negotiations now ‘entering the final stage’.

However, there has been no official confirmation of any progress and after reports emerged of a new Arsenal offer on Thursday evening, Mudryk took to Instagram to post a praying hands emoji, giving a clear indication of his hopes.

Sky Sports reporter Olivia Buzaglo thinks Mudryk would be a “really good option” for Arsenal to have but doubts that he will go straight into their starting XI.

Olivia said: “I don’t think he goes straight into Arsenal’s starting XI, Gabriel Martinelli has been brilliant this season.

“I think at the start of the season, I don’t really think anyone expected Arsenal to be top at this stage, but when I was looking at Arsenal’s squad – even in the summer – I was thinking, they’re obviously in Europe, last season they weren’t in Europe and they struggled towards the back end of last season with the squad they had.

“Obviously, they’ve made additions, but I still just looked at their squad and just thought I don’t know if it’s ready to compete on all fronts.

“They are in a title race, and with the injuries they’ve now had, I feel like adding a player like Mudryk would be a very good option for Mikel Arteta and Arsenal.

“They’re still in the Europa League as well, so they’re one of the best teams in that competition as well, so you’d think that adding someone like that they can then call from the bench and he won’t make their starting XI any weaker, I think is a really good option.”
