Manchester United could hire Everton’s director of football Marcel Brands

According to The Sun, Manchester United are keen to wrap up a deal for Everton’s director of football, Marcel Brands.

The Dutchman has occupied the role at Goodison Park since 2018. He was instrumental in the club bringing in stars such as James Rodriguez, Abdoulaye Doucoure and Allan this summer. (h/t The Sun)

Hiring a director of football has been a conversation that has continued since the departure of chief executive David Gill in 2013. Coinciding with the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson, United have since struggled to hit the transfer market jackpot. (h/t The Sun)

Executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward is the man currently in charge of transfers. He has come udner intense scrutiny after failing to land a number of targets in recent years.

Our pursuit of Jadon Sancho in the summer was a prime example of Woodward’s lack of decisiveness. Not only did we lose out on the young winger but were left scrambling to complete deals on deadline day.

It would appear that United are ready to finally ready to make a change at the top. Brands’ contract at Everton runs out next summer and he is considered a top candidate for the job. (h/t The Sun)

The proposed new structure will see Brands take center stage. The 58-year-old had earlier worked with Dutch sides RKC Waalwijk, AZ Alkmaar and PSV Eindhoven.
