David Moyes has opened up on his ambitions to win the FA Cup with West Ham and changing the club’s ‘mentality’ when it comes to winning silverware.

West Ham have made notable strides this season and currently sit seventh in the Premier League, having won each of their four fixtures in all competitions since the turn of the New Year to raise hopes over a push for continental football.

Moyes’ side return to FA Cup action this weekend when they host Doncaster in the fourth round tomorrow, with the Hammers looking to progress as they go in search of a first major trophy in four decades.

Moyes has opened up on ambitions to bring long-awaited silverware to the London Stadium and has outlined his plans to change West Ham’s ‘mentality’ when it comes to challenging for trophies.

“It’s something that we want,” he said.

“I want our players to be playing against the best teams in the league regularly and competing against them regularly, because if you’re doing that it tends to mean you’re involved in quarter-finals, semi-finals… big games.

“That’s what we want at West Ham. We want it to be a different mentality, so let’s hope we can do that.”

West Ham have not progressed beyond the fourth round since reaching the quarter-finals in 2015/16, though Moyes outlined his intent this season by playing a strong side in the third round victory at non-league Stockport.

The 57-year-old says winning the trophy is in his sights this season and says he will give his side the best possible chance of reaching the competition’s latter stages.

“I want to win the FA Cup if I can, I really do,” he told reporters.

“I want to be strong in the cup competitions but I’ve also got to be mindful on the amount of games we’re playing.

“We’ve been good with injuries and I want to keep it that way at the moment. I’ll use the squad of players but my intention is to be as strong as I feel I can be for this game.”
