Moyes calls old side Everton ‘a tough nut to crack’ | OneFootball

After being on the wrong end of a 4-1 hammering at Villa Park last week and suffering defeat at Olympiacos on Thursday, West Ham manager David Moyes will be eager to get back to winning ways against old club Everton this weekend.

West Ham currently lie 9th in the table, after a great first few games, but have slowed down recently.

The Hammers faithful will be hoping this drop in form is only temporary, and not a sign of things to come this season.

Speaking on his approach to the game in his pre-match press conference, Moyes said: “We’ve got ourselves back and will get ourselves ready for it.

“Every Premier League game is difficult and we’ll approach it as we approach every other game.”

The Scotsman enjoyed arguably his best years in management at Goodison Park, leading the club to European football on numerous occasions, an FA Cup final in 2009, and most importantly, far away from the relegation battle.

Times have changed for the Toffees, but Moyes still believes the team are a difficult one to beat.

“Everton are a hard nut to crack, they’ve probably played a bit better away from home this season. I don’t see teams beating them easily, I see a resilient team who keep at it and they have players capable of scoring goals.”

Controversy has surrounded Everton this week, with alleged financial breaches creating rumours of punishment, such as a 12-point deduction.

Although a coaches job is to focus on the footballing side of the club, external matters constantly come into play, as seen with Sandro Tonali and Newcastle, and Sean Dyche now faces the task of keeping his team focused.

Speaking on his opposite number in his pre-match press conference, Moyes said: “I think Sean has done a brilliant job keeping them in the Premier League last year when it was the toughest I can remember on the relegation side. Congratulations to him for that.

“It looks as if it might be a difficult period at Everton right now with the financial situation, but he’s steering them through it.”

With every point crucial in the Premier League, both sides will be desperate for a good result at the London Stadium.
