Fabrice Hawkins reports this afternoon that French defender Moussa Niakhaté is set to complete his move from Mainz to newly-promoted Premier League club Nottingham Forest.

L’Équipe had reported last month that the English side had entered talks with the Bundesliga outfit for the former Metz man, who has been playing in Germany for the last 4 seasons.

Niakhaté has made 135 appearances in total for Mainz, helping them to an 8th-place finish this past campaign. He was also named club captain at the start of the season.

West Ham and Everton were also reported to have shown an interest in the former Valenciennes man, who came up through the youth academy at Lille.

The centre-back is also a former French youth international, having appeared 11 times for the U21 side between 2018 and 2019. Niakhaté would be joining compatriot Giulian Biancone, whose move from Troyes to the English side was made official yesterday.
