Ansu Fati is at a crossroads in his career as he returns to FC Barcelona after a disappointing loan spell at Brighton & Hove Albion.

The 21-year-old remains determined to succeed at his parent club and has already started working on his fitness and training even before the pre-season starts to make an impression on new manager Hansi Flick.

However, despite reports suggesting otherwise, Fati’s future at Barcelona continues to be uncertain and depends on various factors, including how he fares during pre-season.

With his continuity far from guaranteed, there are suitors for the La Masia graduate this summer.

Jose Mourinho asks for Ansu Fati

It has already been reported that Sevilla are interested in signing Ansu Fati, with former Barcelona B coach, Garcia Pimenta, eager to work with the La Masia forward.

Now, MARCA reports that Jose Mourinho also wants to sign Ansu at his new club, Fenerbahce, in Turkey this summer.

Mourinho has him in his sights to reinforce his team’s forward line. In the last few days, the Portuguese coach has enquired about Ansu to find out what his situation is and what Barcelona are thinking of doing.

For the moment, the self-proclaimed ‘Special One’ has not taken any further steps. It is an option that he likes and is waiting to see what the forward and Barça do.

Mourinho has a very good relationship with both Jorge Mendes, Ansu’s agent, and Deco, Barcelona’s sporting director.

However, it is still too early to present the Fenerbahce option to the Spanish attacker as Mourinho is also considering other options.

Ansu’s future hangs in the balance

While some reports have suggested that Ansu will remain at Barcelona next season, such a scenario is far from guaranteed at this point.

It is true that new manager Hansi Flick wants to take a look at the 21-year-old during pre-season, and only after that will a decision on his continuity be made.

Hence, Fati’s future depends on how he performs during pre-season, but also on the type of market that Barcelona have in the summer window.

If the club sign Nico Williams and also opt to retain the likes of Ferran Torres and Raphinha, there would be little to no space for Ansu in the squad.
