Jose Mourinho urges Daniel Levy to sign Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson

According to The Express, Jose Mourinho wants Tottenham Hotspur chief Daniel Levy to sign Manchester United star Dean Henderson in the summer.

Henderson returned to United last summer after an impressive two-year loan spell at Sheffield United. He was expected to challenge David de Gea for the starting position but has so far been limited to only a handful of appearances.

The Portuguese tactician is keen to replace an ageing Hugo Lloris in the Spurs goal. One of the best keepers in the league in his heyday, the Frenchman is not getting any younger and has been susceptible to mistakes of late.

With Lloris expected to move on, Henderson could fill the void and potentially go straight into the starting line-up. At 23, he has every chance of becoming Spurs’ goalkeeper for the better part of the decade.

However, Mourinho will have to contend with competition from Borussia Dortmund. Not only is Henderson willing to play abroad but the Germans are also more likely to offer him Champion League football next season.

Building castles in the air?

While Mourinho has his eye on the summer window, it remains to be seen if he will still be Tottenham manager by then. A run of five defeats in the last six matches has seen Spurs plummet from the dizzying heights of the Premier League summit.

This has raised questions regarding the Portuguese’s future at the club. He has also been touted as the favourite to be sacked next. (h/t The Daily Mail)

In De Gea, United have a fine keeper. However, Henderson’s impatience looks likely to force the club’s hand in the summer.

Whether it will be Henderson or De Gea who gets the stick remains to be seen.
