The Giallorossi missed a big chance to ensure Europa League next season, hitting the woodwork four times against the Venetian side.

“We really have to consider how much more we could’ve done this season if we managed to score our goals,” the Portuguese technician told Sky Sport.

“I think this is the sort of match where we have to say, ‘Wow, 5-6 more goals would’ve been enough to give us a few more points.’ Defensively we’re usually a very concentrated team that doesn’t concede much, especially in the last three months.”

“However, we need to be better in attack. It’s not easy playing against ten when all of them are sitting deep behind the ball but we took plenty of risks in attack, we just couldn’t score.”

Despite the disappointing result, Mourinho and his team thanked fans inside the packed Stadio Olimpico for their support this season.

The ultras in Curva Sud unfurled a banner encouraging Roma ahead of their Conference League final showdown later this month against Feyenoord. The banner reading, “Crown our dreams of glory, forza ragazzi…write your names in history.”

“We wanted to thank the supporters at full time, once again we were like one big family,” he said.

“There’s always one way we can thank them: by giving everything we have on the pitch, which we did tonight, too. Ultimately if the season ends and we win a trophy, I’d say it’s deserved.”

“Though, it would be especially deserved for these fans. This group of supporters are the ones who deserve so much more.”

“In terms of passion of the people, I think this (winning the Conference League) means more than Milan or Inter winning the Scudetto.”

Adding, “This is a very special club with special people. We gave everything we had tonight and deserved to win. However, I send a hug to everyone from Venezia from their executives to their supporters, I hope they return to Serie A.”
