Jose Mourinho calls new Inter coach Cristian Chivu ‘one of my kids’ and hopes he does well in the role, but not too well. ‘I am egotistical, so I hope he wins it all, but not the Treble.’
Chivu was appointed to replace Simone Inzaghi largely because of his pedigree with the Nerazzurri, first as a player in Mourinho’s Treble-winning team of 2010, then as coach of their youth team.
“He is one of my kids,” Mou told Sky Sport Italia as he attended the Formula 1 preparations at Silverstone.
“He learned from his experience as a player, which was enormous, but now it is different. It is one thing to be a great player, quite another to be a coach. I hope he manages to make this transition.
“I know he loves Inter, and Inter loves him. He is a fantastic lad, with hunger, courage and character.”

However, when it comes to success stories on the Inter bench, the Special One admits he wants to keep his own record untouched.
“The only thing I hope is that he doesn’t win the Treble. Chivu can win the Champions League, the Scudetto, but I am egotistical. I’d love Inter to win the Champions League again, but not the Treble…”

Mourinho was the only one to achieve this feat at Inter, although Inzaghi did manage a double with Scudetto and Coppa Italia, then lost two Champions League Finals in three years.
He was most recently in Italy with Roma, where he won the Conference League trophy, and is currently in the Turkish Super Lig for Fenerbahce.
“I don’t think you miss me really,” smiled Mou when asked about a return to Serie A.
“The only reason you might miss me is because nobody won the Champions League in Italy after me. That is the only real problem, unfortunately it is true. They call me the Special One because I do things that people don’t expect.
“Now we’ll see if I manage to do something unexpected in Istanbul too.”
