Paulo Gazzaniga axed from Tottenham’s Europa League squad in favour of Sergio Reguilon

As reported by Football.london, Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho has axed goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga from the club’s UEFA Europa League squad in order to make room for new signing Sergio Reguilon.

Reguilon joined Tottenham from Spanish champions Real Madrid earlier this month. The 23-year-old made his debut for the club on Tuesday night in the Carabao Cup clash against Chelsea. After a difficult start to the game, the Spaniard showed his qualities, setting up Erik Lamela for the all important equalizer.

After his positive showing, Reguilon has been drafted into Tottenham’s UEFA Europa League squad ahead of the playoff fixture against Maccabi Haifa on Thursday night. (h/t Football.london)

As Tottenham were already at their limit for 25 players on List A squad, it meant that Jose had to remove one of his players. And while the manager could have taken off players like Jack Clarke, Cameron Carter-Vickers, he has opted to omit goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga from the 25-man List A. (h/t Football.london)

Gazzaniga has been with Tottenham since 2017 and had been Hugo Lloris’ backup up until this summer. Following the arrival of Joe Hart, the Argentine has dropped down to the third-choice goalkeeper at the club.

And now, Jose has removed the goalkeeper from the list even though he currently has just 16 foreign players out of a maximum 17 in his squad. This could spell the end of the 28-year-old’s career at Tottenham. (h/t Football.london)

The Athletic claimed that Gazzaniga is one among six players that the club is looking to move on this summer. So, we may very well have seen the last of the Argentine in Tottenham colours.
