Mason Mount has admitted that Chelsea need to play with more intensity throughout the game after drawing 1-1 with Leicester this afternoon.

Mount gave Chelsea the lead in just the seventh minute, showing great determination to press Wilfred Ndidi into a mistake, before finishing it off past the helpless Kasper Schmeichel.

Ndidi would go on to make amends for his first-half error just after the hour mark, the 22-year-old making the most of some poor Chelsea marking to power home a header from a corner.

While Frank Lampard’s side had the better of the opening exchanges, Leicester created a whole host of chances towards the end of the game, with James Maddison guilty of blazing one over the bar.

Speaking afterwards, Mason Mount thanked Lampard for the faith he had shown in him, but called on the side to play with intensity for a full 90 minutes.

“With the squad we have we can maintain that intensity for 90 minutes. But that’s something we have to work on,” Mount told Match of the Day.

“It means a lot to me [to score for Chelsea]. There was only one thing on my mind and that was to try and score.

“The manager has put so much faith in me and I want to prove that I can perform. I had a good pre-season and I need to build on that.”

The result means that Frank Lampard is still without his first win as Chelsea manager, having lost against Manchester United in last weekends Premier League opener, before the penalty shootout defeat to Liverpool in Wednesday’s UEFA Super Cup.
