Mount misses only penalty as Tottenham eliminate Chelsea from Carabao Cup | OneFootball

Tottenham have knocked Chelsea out of the Carabao Cup thanks to a penalty shootout win on Tuesday.

Harry Kane put Spurs up 5-4 in what was a flawless shootout until Mason Mount followed up by sending his spot-kick wide of the goal.

Chelsea had dominated the first half and new signing Timo Werner bagged his first goal for the club with a superb finish into the bottom corner.

But some sloppy defending from Emerson and a superb cross from new signing Sergio Reguilon allowed Eric Lamela to equalise for the hosts with seven minutes remaining.

With no extra-time played, the game went straight to penalties and Mount was the only player to miss.

Speaking after the game, Lamela said: "We are very happy to win, it means a lot for us.

"The first half was difficult, they managed the ball and we tried to press but in the second half we played like we wanted to. With penalties sometimes you win, sometimes you lose.

"Everyone shot very well, this team really wanted to win."
