This performance will go down in history in Croatia as one of the all-time great goalkeeping displays.

Quite simply, without the 27-year-old between the posts, his country are not in the World Cup semi-finals.

Thanks to him (with assistance from elsewhere), Croatia are into the final four for the second successive tournament.

His 10 saves are not only a record for a Croatian keeper at the World Cup, but they are also the most of any goalkeeper in a single game in Qatar.

Many followed the same theme of making a big near post block to cut off Brazil’s forwards as they cut inside to finish.

He was probably already feeling unbeatable before the shootout but there, he helped his country strike first blood by saving the opening kick from Rodrygo – and from there, they didn’t look back.

That was Livaković’s fourth penalty save of the tournament in a shootout which is the joint most in history, along with compatriot Danijel Subašić and Sergio Goycoechea.
