For an hour, Brazil’s centre forward had a quiet and frustrating evening against the Serbian defence.

But he capitalised on a Vanja Milinković-Savić parry to pounce and break the deadlock to justify his selection despite recent injury concerns.

What followed after that was a moment of genius as he scored the tournament’s best goal so far, meeting an awkward cross with a sublime first touch and acrobatic volley.

Not only is it a serious contender not to be bettered in Qatar, it has already earned a spot as one of the tournament’s all-time great goals.

That was his ninth strike from his last eight caps for his country and it also saw him equal, in one game, the legendary Ronaldinho’s World Cup goals tally for the Seleçao.

Those goals took his tally for his country to 19 and since making his debut four years ago, no player has more for Brazil in that period.

He looks unstoppable at the moment in that famous yellow jersey.
