Édouard Mendy (Senegal)
It has not been an easy few months for Édouard Mendy, who has made mistakes at club level, suffered injuries, been dropped, and then caught some criticism for his part in the two goals the Netherlands netted against Senegal on Monday.
This felt like a response.
Mendy was not incredibly busy against Qatar on Friday but when he was called into action he was superb.
One save — point blank, low to his right — at 2-0 was absolutely world class. Qatar did pull one back a little later but Mendy delayed that and who knows how things would have ended had they scored a little earlier with momentum building.
A real response to the critics, now it will be about backing that up with more.
