Rangers had the quality to see off Motherwell at Fir Park, despite a spirited late fightback from the home side.

After a rather uninspiring first half which produced just four shots between both sides, the game came to life in the second period and Malik Tillman gave Rangers the lead on 53 minutes with a stunning solo goal.

Receiving the ball in his own half, the US international went on a mazy run through the Motherwell defence and dinked the ball past a helpless Liam Kelly.

Rangers continued to grow into the game as the second half proceeded, and found themselves two goals to the good 15 minutes later when John Lundstram headed in from Borna Barisic's corner.

It looked like game over, but Motherwell refused to roll over and found themselves right back in the game when Stuart McKinstry's free kick looped over Allan McGregor and into the net.

The Steelmen kept pushing for an equaliser and made Rangers sweat with some inviting long balls over the top, but were unable to turn the tide against last season's Europa League finalists.

It was a much-needed victory for Giovanni van Bronckhorst's side, following their 7-1 thrashing at the hands of Liverpool in midweek, but they were made to work for the three points as Motherwell pushed hard to level the score.

The result means Rangers remain in second place in the Scottish Premiership, just two points behind leaders Celtic. Meanwhile, Motherwell sit in eighth place, languishing uncomfortably close to the bottom of the league table.
