BELMOPAN, Belize – The 2025 Concacaf Central American Cup kicked off on Tuesday with FC Motagua earning a 4-1 win against Verdes FC in Group C at FFB Stadium in Belmopan, Belize.

Carlos Mejía gave the visitors the lead in the 16’ with the first goal of the 2025 CCAC, finding the back of the net with left-footed hit to the near post from a free kick.

Omar Rosas nearly equalized for Verdes in the 18’, but his headed attempt on a corner kick delivery was just wide of the left post.

Motagua found its second in the 21’ through Jorge Serrano, who broke into the box with an individual play down the left flank before scoring with a right-footed finish to the far post.

A Marcelo Santos left-footed rocket from long range in the 55’ further extended Motagua’s lead.

The visitors had a penalty in their favor in the 78’, but the attempt from Mathías Vázquez from the spot was met by a save from Verdes goalkeeper Woodrow West.

Krisean López cut one back for the hosts in the 83’ with a header from inside the box.

Edwin Munguía rounded out the result for the Ciclón Azul in the 84’, striking from close range to capitalize on a ball into the box from Jefryn Macías.

Verdes will host Deportivo Saprissa next Tuesday as action in the Central American Cup continues. FC Motagua will meet CA Independiente in Tegucigalpa, Honduras on the same night.
