Burnley’s fantastic season continued on Tuesday night as they progressed to the fifth round of the FA Cup thanks to a hard-fought victory over Ipswich Town.

Of course, the league is the priority but with Vincent Kompany’s side sitting 17 points clear of third, with a game in hand, the appeal of a cup run grows, particularly as they face Fleetwood Town for a place in the last eight.

Whilst it was a difficult task against the Tractor Boys, Burnley once again came good late on as they turned the screw, with Nathan Tella, once again, making the difference.

In a hectic summer window where Kompany had to rebuild the squad, many signings went under the radar and you could include Tella in that.

The 23-year-old had shown glimpses of his talent at Southampton but struggled for consistency in the top-flight, so this loan was seen as a crucial period for the player.

And, it’s fair to say it’s one he has embraced and enjoyed.

There are so many aspects of this Clarets side to like and Tella is one of those. His direct style, clever movement and ability to score crucial goals has made him a key part of Kompany’s team.

The Saints loanee already has nine in the league and he added another two to his tally with the efforts against the League One side.

Under Kompany, Burnley are regularly dominating possession but the boss has made it clear that you need to keep the ball for a purpose and it’s all about scoring goals – which is why Tella is key.

His movement and willingness to run in behind means he is a constant threat and he brings a new dynamic to the team when he plays.

Even though Kompany won’t admit it, key figures at Turf Moor are already going to have one eye on the Premier League, as promotion seems a formality right now. And, one of the priorities is going to be on keeping Tella.

With Southampton struggling, there is the very real possibility that the two clubs will swap divisions ahead of next season, which should increase the chances of Tella remaining up north.

All connected to Burnley will be enjoying the journey they are on under Kompany and ensuring Tella will be part of it for longer is going to be high on the agenda this summer.
