Morocco attempt for Barcelona superkid Ilias Akhomach revealed

Barcelona superkid Ilias Akhomach has committed his international future to Spain.

The teenage attacker made his first team debut last week and along with Spain, also qualifies for Morocco.

Sergio Piernas, a Spanish coach born in Barcelona, made an attempt to convince Ilias to commit to Morocco ahead of Spain.

Sergio, who today works with the Saudi Arabian U23 team, was the Morocca U17 coach at the time.

He recalled: "Ilias was a priority, he was on the first step for all the qualities we saw in him. He had had a brief step for the U15s of Morocco. I spoke with him several times with video calls. My heart was divided, because I am Spanish but my work was with Morocco.

"He was always very grateful for the interest of the country of his roots. But he always had the idea very clear of wanting to play for Spain."
