The first half was a frustrating one for the Hoops, whose closest calls came from a David Turnbull cross which almost crept in and an improvised Daizen Maeda flick which produced an excellent save.

But within three minutes of the restart, they had their goal after a slick move down the left culminated in Jota cutting back for Kyogo Furuhashi to drill a low strike home at the near post.

Ten minutes later, the Staggies equalised through Alex Iacovitti, who netted from a corner as Celtic switched off.

With Rangers leading at home to Kilmarnock, it took another piece of late Highlands magic from an unlikely source, as Anthony Ralston produced last season, to prevent the champions from falling behind early in the title race.

Jota was once again the provider with six minutes remaining as he sent a superb cross in for Jenz to make it a dream debut in the green and white as he thundered home an emphatic header.

In injury-time, Liel Abada ensured there would be no late drama as he came off the bench to put the seal on things with a curling finish.
