The defender’s move remains subject to international clearance and a work permit.

Having worked her way through the ranks at the Club since joining at Under-15s level, the defender went on to make 87 appearances in all competitions, winning both the FA Cup and Continental Cup in the process.

A lifelong City fan, Morgan impressed during pre-season in 2017/18 and would make her senior bow as a 16-year-old in a 4-0 win over Yeovil Town on the opening day that year.

She would sign her first professional contract with the Club in 2019, before embarking on a hugely successful loan spell at fellow WSL side Everton.

A regular for the Toffees across the campaign, Morgan returned to become a key fixture in Gareth Taylor’s squad.

A versatile player with experience and composure far beyond her years, the defender’s positional and tactical intelligence made her a vital part of our defensive setup.

But Morgan’s influence was also felt away from the pitch, with the 23-year-old an important and popular leader in the dressing room, exemplified by her being named part of the squad’s leadership group.

The defender has also enjoyed success on an international front while at City, first being called up to the senior England national team in September 2020.

A lower leg fracture later that month, however, meant she had to wait until October 2022 to make her debut, but Morgan has been a Lionesses regular ever since.

Indeed, she was part of the England squad that reached the 2023 World Cup final, and also helped her nation win the inaugural Finalissima against Brazil a few months prior.

But now it’s time for Morgan to embark on a new chapter in her career.

Everyone at Manchester City would like to wish Esme all the best for the future, and thank her for her efforts while at the Club.
