Sergio Aguero is set for another period on the sidelines after the Manchester City forward confirmed he has tested positive for Covid-19.

Aguero has endured a frustrating campaign and has made just two Premier League starts as a result of injuries and enforced absences, the Argentina international having already been in isolation since January 10 after coming into close contact with a person who tested positive for coronavirus.

The 32-year-old missed Manchester City‘s games against Birmingham, Brighton, Crystal Palace and Aston Villa during his time in isolation, and has now confirmed he is set for another period of on the sidelines after revealing he has contracted Covid-19.

Taking to his Twitter account, the City star confirmed he has some symptoms and is following doctor’s instructions as he bids to recover and return to first-team action.

Aguero missed the start of the season after undergoing knee surgery on an injury sustained in June, before spending another period on the sidelines after suffering a hamstring injury upon his return.

The news of Aguero’s positive test is the latest setback for the club’s all-time record goalscorer who has made just eight appearances in all competitions this season, in what could prove the final campaign of his Manchester City career with no extension yet to be agreed on his contract that will expire next summer.

City face Cheltenham Town in the FA Cup’s fourth round this weekend before travelling to face West Brom in the Premier League on Tuesday.
