Mora and Williams fire Saprissa past Cartaginés

SAN JUAN DE TIBÁS, Costa Rica – The 2025 Concacaf Central American Cup continued with Deportivo Saprissa earning a 2-nil win against CS Cartaginés in Group C on Tuesday at Estadio Ricardo Saprissa in San Juan de Tibás, Costa Rica.
Saprissa took an early lead in the 3’ through Joseph Mora, who scored with a left-footed finish to the far post. Gerald Taylor delivered the assist on the opening goal.
Cartaginés goalkeeper Kevin Briceño delivered a notable double save in the 8’ to prevent Saprissa from extending its lead.
Mora came close to scoring again in the 47’, but his attempt from a tight angle was met by a save from Briceño.
Newton Williams struck with a right-footed attempt from inside the box in the 75’ to double the lead for the purple club. Kenay Myrie provided the cross on the play.
Saprissa will visit Verdes FC as action in the Central American Cup continues next Tuesday. Cartago will resume play on August 14, when it faces FC Motagua in Tegucigalpa, Honduras.
