Rangers are ‘not anticipated’ to complete a deal to sign a midfielder who has been linked with a move to the club, despite claims that they were even giving him a medical.

The Gers are looking to support new boss Russell Martin as he seeks to shape the squad to his liking, ahead of a summer which will include Champions League qualifiers.

A host of players have come onto the radar as possible signings, including Peterborough United winger Kwame Poku, who Posh fear will leave England.

It has been suggested that Rangers will sign midfielder Josh Mulligan, with it even being claimed he was undergoing a medical.

That talk though is wide of the mark and, according to journalist Joshua Barrie, Rangers are ‘not anticipated’ to sign the Dundee midfielder.

Mulligan is out of contract at Dundee this summer and is an attractive option for a host of sides.

The 22-year-old midfielder made 36 appearances in the Scottish Premiership for Dundee in the recent campaign, chipping in with five assists.

Rangers got a close up look at him as he featured in all three of Dundee’s meetings with the Gers.

They do not look to have been convinced enough that he is a player they should sign though and Mulligan is likely to be heading elsewhere.

Rangers are due to report back for pre-season duty later this month, with a 23rd June start, and a training camp south of the border.

That will give new boss Martin a good chance to run the rule over the squad he has been left and identify any big needs to strengthen.
