Monza Reach Agreement With Hellas Verona for Lazio Target Casale

Monza have agreed a deal with Hellas Verona for Nicolo Casale and now they’re working on agreeing personal terms with the defender.

The Biancocelesti have been big fans of the 24-year-old Italian centre back for months now and even tried to sign him back in the January transfer window, before agreeing to return this summer. Despite weeks of talks between the two clubs, no agreement was found and now Lazio are likely to miss out.

As reported by Gianluca Di Marzio and SportItalia (via LazioNews24), Monza have agreed to pay around €7-8m plus add-ons for Casale and pre-transfer medicals are already being organised. For his credit, the 24-year-old Italian defender wants to join Lazio but now a move to Rome looks unlikely.

Hellas Verona have to get this deal across the line before 30th June due to budgetary reasons, forcing them to hurry a deal.

Napoli have also emerged as contenders for Casale recently but now a move to Silvio Berlusconi’s Monza seems fairly likely now.

This is an incredibly disappointing result for Lazio, whose only arrival this summer is midfielder Marcos Antonio. A defender suitable for Maurizio Sarri’s system is clearly needed and Casale seemed like the right fit, so now the Roman club will have to pursue alternatives.
