Monza are still searching for a new centre back and they’ve reignited interest in transfer listed Lazio defender Francesco Acerbi.

The 34-year-old Italian centre back asked for a move away from Rome earlier this summer following an incredibly difficult season, where he struggled to adapt to Maurizio Sarri’s system and fell out with the fans. Acerbi is out of Sarri’s Lazio project but his long contract means a sale this summer is crucial.

As reported by Gianluca Di Marzio, Monza were interested in Acerbi earlier this summer but moved away to focus on other targets, but now they’ve again approached Lazio to try and agree a deal for the veteran defender.

Acerbi is still unconvinced about the move and is waiting to see what’ll happen on the transfer market. In recent weeks, he’s been seriously linked with a move to Napoli or Inter, but neither have submitted a concrete offer yet. Lazio are happy to sell Acerbi to Monza and have given their green light for a deal.
